To create a brand new spaceship built for speed and manoeuvrability. The design needed to be colourful and distinctive, but feel like a vehicle which has been customised to the owner's requirements.
The final painted concept below illustrates the craft travelling at low speed as it begins to land.
I wanted the final concept to capture the synergy and power of the ship, whilst making sure that the emphasis remains on the designed elements. As I developed the idea I liked the concept of a racer ship, projecting lights and LEDs which would glow as it moved through different environments.
I was keen to add a distinctive colour scheme which could be carried across different aspects of the spaceship, but for the ship itself to have quite angular, defined edges to give it a more hand-crafted, unique feel.
I included a second, much smaller, craft which docks above the engine on the main ship and can be flown separately.
These clean sketches illustrate the visualisation process of understanding the ship's construction and movements.
The top illustration shows the level of detail put into the design before the painting stage, as well as individual elements such as numbers and symbols which are redrawn and added to the final concept.
